Welcome to Palm Spring

Palm Springs is indeed the year-round premier vacation destination. The hotels and resorts in Palm Springs are a celebration of style, and a paradigm of diversity. Small bed and breakfasts and charming country inns abound, and a range from modest to exclusive, as do sunny resorts, secluded spa hotels, and stunning conference centers. For those in search of the best of the best, there are the luxurious private compounds frequented by stars and jet-setters from around the globe. And for those with a budget, there are smartly priced discount hotels. What stands out about our city is the diversity of our residents and our visitors as well as the diversity of the attractions we have to offer.

Demographics

As of the census GR2 of 2000, there were 11,699 people, 5,148 households, and 2,970 families residing in the village. The population density was 2,805.6/km² (7,261.1/mi²). There were 5,919 housing units at an average density of 1,419.5/km² (3,673.7/mi²). The racial makeup of the village was 84.24% White, 6.68% African American, 0.33% Native American, 1.38% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 4.76% from other races, and 2.58% from two or more races. 25.04% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 5,148 households out of which 26.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.7% were married couples living together, 13.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 42.3% were non-families. 33.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.27 and the average family size was 2.90.
In the village the population was spread out with 21.6% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 32.9% from 25 to 44, 20.6% from 45 to 64, and 16.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 89.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.5 males.
The median income for a household in the village was $36,026, and the median income for a family was $42,430. Males had a median income of $30,920 versus $26,106 for females. The per capita income for the village was $18,763. 7.9% of the population and 4.9% of families were below the poverty line. 7.2% of those under the age of 18 and 8.9% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
